A rapid and sustainable microwave-assisted protocol has been established for the synthesis of substituted oxazole derivatives employing polyethylene glycol (PEG-600) as a non-ionic green reaction medium. A series of oxazole derivatives (3a-3m) were obtained via catalyst-free cyclo-condensation of α-bromoacetophenone with substituted amides. The reactions were completed within one minute, providing excellent isolated yields ranging from 80-90%. PEG-600 was efficiently recovered and reused, confirming the eco-friendly nature of the process. Structural elucidation was carried out using melting point determination, TLC, IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, Mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for in vitro antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Several derivatives exhibited noteworthy antibacterial efficacy, indicating their potential relevance in pharmaceutical research.
