Abstract:

The current project was aimed to compare the effect of natural (Tragacanth gum) and synthetic polymer HPMCK4M (HPMC-hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose) on the selected drug Diclofenac sodium release from the matrix tablets prepared using the above polymers in various ratios and evaluated various post compression parameters. Diclofenac sodium currently most widely prescribed drug sought for pain relief available in various pharmaceutical formulations hence selected for the current study. In the current study both polymer with varying concentrations, a total of five formulations prepared and the in vitro drug release studies showed that synthetic polymer with F3 formulation showed enhanced sustained effect compared to natural polymer with 48% at the end of 3 hours study with buffer change 6.8 pH phosphate buffer. All the evaluation parameters of all the formulations showed acceptable results.
