Hyperthyroidism is defined as a condition with exaggerated discharge of thyroid hormones, which results in increased concentration of thyroid hormones in the serum. This leads to disturbances in multiple organ systems including heart, central nervous system, digestive system and liver. The most common cause has to be Graves’ disease which is autoimmune, which is due to uncontrolled stimulation of the thyroid gland by antibodies to the thyroid stimulating Hormone receptors. Surgical treatment is indicated for patients with large glands and severe ophthalmopathy who do not go into remission. Recovery drugs used such as Propylthiouracil and Methimazole are the most commonly used medications that vascularize the causing the blockage of the peroxidase enzyme system and coupling reaction. Thyrotoxicosis with destruction of thyroid tissue like in subacute thyroiditis or type-2 amiodarone induced thyroiditis.
Medicine such as thioamides are the best treatment for hyperthyroidism. It can also be treated through non -pharmacological way i.e. surgical operation and pharmacological way i.e. through medication.
