Abstract:

Medicinal plants have long been recognized for their therapeutic potential, offering valuable alternatives for managing various health conditions. Herbs have been integral to healthcare systems worldwide, serving as effective remedies for both prevention and treatment. In the present study, the nephroprotective effects of Catharanthus roseus Linn. Leaves extract were evaluated, with a special focus on its ability to mitigate nephrotoxicity induced by gentamicin and aspirin in a rat model. The research assessed key parameters such as serum creatinine levels, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and histopathological changes to determine the protective effects of the extract. The results indicate that Catharanthus roseus leaves extract exhibits significant nephroprotective activity, reducing kidney damage and improving renal function with minimal side effects. These findings underscore the plant's potential for inclusion in formulations aimed at protecting against drug-induced nephrotoxicity. Further studies should explore the broader pharmacological activities of this extract, including its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, to establish its utility in clinical nephrology applications.
